Today it is impossible to imagine life without ring lights. They can be found in many different places. They often decorate a foyer or hover above reception counters. They are also used in meeting rooms or hotel bars. They are also used in restaurants or to showcase products in sales rooms or at trade fairs. Ring lights decorate private living spaces. They have a harmonious and balancing effect above any table and direct the light where it is needed.
The rings even light up dentists' surgeries and SATTLER ring lights can even be found in Helsinki underground stations! And this is just a selection of the many different SATTLER ring lights in various projects around the world.

2008 - The year when the history of SATTLER rings began

The history of ring luminaires at SATTLER began in 2008. Ulrich Sattler, a lover of good light, clarity and the harmonious circular shape, dared to bend a fluorescent tube and bring it onto the market as a ring light in a high-quality aluminium profile. Around the same time, LEDs were becoming increasingly popular on the German market and Ulrich Sattler recognised their potential. In 2009, SATTLER presented the ring light for the first time at the trade fair in Munich and impressed visitors.

Variety of sizes
SATTLER already covers 19 different diameters in its standard ring light portfolio. The sizes vary from Ø 380 mm to Ø 10 m. Each ring luminaire is manufactured on the basis of various extruded aluminium profiles with profile widths ranging from just 20 mm for the SLIM series to 260 mm for the ANELLO series. The heights (including the diffuser, which is usually flush with the profile height) vary from 20 mm to 170 mm.
In addition, individual customer requests, especially for large-format luminaires, are always realised.
Big Ring Luminaires
The wide-area ANELLO
The ANELLO series is the widest ring luminaire with a light surface of 260 mm, but at 60 mm it is by no means the tallest.
The tall CIRCOLO
The CIRCOLO series is another and probably the best-known large ring light family from SATTLER. It is available with a pure aluminium profile width of 40 mm and in particular with a height of 80 mm or alternatively even 140 mm.
The possibilities are endless.

Filigree ring luminaires
The slim SLIM
The slender SLIM ring luminaire series offers maximum variance in terms of light emission direction, direct, indirect, inwards or outwards, and in terms of mounting options, from pendant and surface-mounted luminaires to wall or table luminaires. Profile width and profile height 20 mm x 23 mm or 23 mm x 20 mm. Ø 380 -1900 mm
The doubled DOPPIO
The DOPPIO ring luminaire series allows you to choose between direct or direct and indirect light emission at the same time. And thanks to its slim profile of 23 mm W x 46 mm H, it still looks rather delicate, but its greater stability allows diameters of Ø 600 mm - 3500 mm.

Oversized ring luminaires
The large-dimensioned special lights
Whether oversized, because they exceed the sizes of the standard portfolio, or labelled as large ring lights. Both words mean the same thing here and yet something different for every project.
This is how SATTLER realises a wide variety of special ring lights!
>> Shining inwards: based on the larger profiles of the CIRCOLO ring luminaire series (W 40 mm x H 140 mm), as shown here with the large polished aluminium special ring luminaire in the Roche canteen. Or beyond that, with project-specific, even larger profiles, as with the spiral pendant luminaire in the CCH.
>> Direct and indirect lighting: There is also an increasing demand for large-dimensioned luminaires based on the profile of the slender or lower DUETTO ring luminaire series, which is similar to the DOPPIO, but with a slightly wider profile W 42 mm x H 68 mm, providing more stability for the realisation of larger diameters.

Further geometric shapes
Based on the round CIRCOLO ring luminaire series, further rounded aluminium profile luminaires were developed called the SOFT series.

The SOFT DELTA: a rounded triangle measuring 40 mm wide x 80 mm high in various sizes, always with legs of equal length, which shines inwards and is available in a variety of colours as a pendant or surface-mounted luminaire.

The beauty of the rounded triangle is also evident in its little sister, the SLIM DELTA. A slim profile with W 20 mm x H 23 mm direct or inward lighting.

The "square ring luminaire series" GIOCO offers various sizes of rectangular and square narrow aluminium profile luminaires.
All sizes have been developed in the golden ratio and can therefore be harmoniously combined with each other at any time. Always with the slim, elegant profile dimensions W 22 mm x H 30 mm.

Customised ring luminaire shapes
In addition to the standard product portfolio, there are many individual lighting solutions realised with ring lights. Furniture that is present in another room often lends itself to adapting a luminaire to this shape, picking up on it and reflecting it. In meeting rooms, for example, there are often very strongly shaped and present meeting table shapes that need to be illuminated at the same time.

The profile luminaires with the open centre offer the possibility of using this surface for other materials such as acoustically effective fabrics or foils. As acoustics play an important role not only in large rooms, SATTLER has developed a solution that fulfils both the desire for light and pleasant acoustics.
At the same time, the new interior acts as an extended diffuser that casts the light homogeneously downwards towards the floor or ceiling.

The round ring luminaire series CIRCOLO LIGHT + ACOUSTIC features an acoustically effective white fabric in addition to the internal I-diffuser.

All shapes in the SOFT series, whether the elliptical SOFT ELLIPSE L+A, the triangular SOFT DELTA, the square SOFT QUADRA or the rectangular SOFT SQUARE, are also available with an additional acoustically effective fabric for sound reduction as a variant with an internal I-shaped diffuser.

The combination of different ring lights
Playing with the existing ring light elements resulted in further special lights. The passion for ring lights and inspired designers led to the further development of the individual ring lights into special and high-quality lighting objects.

The modern TOCCATA chandelier from SATTLER is available in various diameters from 3 to 5 luminaire rings and creates a different and always very harmonious, elegant image from all sides.

The modern INSIEME dhandelier also consists of 3 connected light rings that appear to float on top of each other, all of the same size but with different beam directions.

Customised SATTLER luminaires can also be found in various completed projects.
Both special shapes, such as these curved inward-radiating circular segments based on the SLIM, and customer-specific colours, selected according to the surfaces of the floor numbers, have been realised in this individual lighting object. The suspension of the lighting elements at different heights draws attention to the stairwell of this multi-flight straight staircase.
