"Pictures in metal – masterpieces of bronze art

With over forty bronze sculptures from the late 16th and early 17th centuries, the Residence Museum is presenting one of the richest collections of European bronze art from the Mannerism and early Baroque eras. Today the bronze gods and heroes that once decorated the gardens, fountains and façades of the Residence have been replaced with copies. Since 2015 the precious originals have been displayed in the early Baroque rooms on the ground floor of the building on the north-west side of the Imperial Courtyard."

Refurbishment of historic premises for events and the exhibition of significant historical bronze objects

"Following the relocation of the State Museum of Egyptian Art from its premises in the Hofgarten wing of the Munich Residenz, the area was to be refurbished for events and for the exhibition of significant historical bronze objects. The objective was to achieve a high standard of design whilst preserving the historic, listed building fabric as much as possible."

Historic buildings & their unique charm

Lighting as a harmonious design feature

Historic buildings often exude a powerful presence, even a sense of dominance. This is due in no small part to the fine materials and the exquisite craftsmanship of the architectural elements. Precisely because materials and craftsmanship have evolved over the decades, the contrast with today’s architecture is, in itself, a source of great fascination. The cool marble – the romantic stucco ceilings – the combination of the curves of the vaults with the linearity of the columns. Precious metals, gold and bronze. And alongside these, further witnesses to history here in the halls in human form, yet cast in bronze.

A respectful guide through contemporary history

There is something special about lighting spaces like these.

To highlight the elegance of the rooms, providing ample light without causing glare. Lighting that blends harmoniously into the space, keeps the focus on the room itself, helps the room’s atmosphere to unfold fully, and supports the presentation of the exhibits.

All the while, of course, taking heritage protection into account, as well as ensuring energy efficiency and providing the right control and dimming options.

Fascinating moments of light

Bright. Clear. Elegant and stately.
